Proteins in neurodegeneration

Alsin is a large protein linked to rare forms of juvenile motor neuron disease. Part of it is made of MORN repeats, small structural motifs whose behaviour is not well understood.

Using molecular modelling, we characterised how Alsin’s MORN region moves on its own and how it assembles into dimers, as a step towards understanding what goes wrong in disease.
